Send Out

6-count · Beginner

A six-count move that opens up the dance: the follow rides the lead's momentum until the arms stretch.

  1. Starts in closed position.
  2. Rock step: the lead opens the frame and sends the follow straight out.
  3. Ends in open position, one hand held.

Not to be confused with: Sugar Push

Understanding the move

Count by count

  • 1-2: the lead gives the energy right on this first step.
  • 3-4: the couple pivots about half a turn, then the lead's right hand leaves the follow's back.
  • 5-6: the lead's left hand in the follow's right, both anchor: the arms stretch and you feel it in the hips.

Usual mistakes

  • No stretch at the end: the send out feels flat.
  • The follow spends all the momentum at once and gets there before 6.
