Slingshot

8-count · Intermediate

A move where the lead holds the follow against their side for a while before sending them back where they came from, like a stone leaving a slingshot.

  1. Starts in open position.
  2. The follow comes in and the lead catches them on the right side, as if loading a slingshot.
  3. Release them back out the way they came, ends open.

Not to be confused with: Swing Out

Understanding the move

How it goes

  • The lead's right arm wraps around the follow's waist; the couple holds this for several counts, pressed side by side.
  • Before the exit, the follow pivots to face the lead and the couple rotates as in the middle of a swing out.

Usual mistakes

  • The follow stops dead beside the lead: the exit loses its snap.
  • The lead lets go before the couple has pivoted: the follow heads off at an angle.
