Tacky Annie

Jazz steps (solo) · Beginner

A low, wide-legged jazz step of alternating touch-steps, with big swinging arms.

  1. Drop low on eight, feet apart and knees bent.
  2. Touch one foot out behind you, then step onto it as the arms swing.
  3. Same on the other side, touch step, touch step.

Understanding the move

Count by count

  • 1: the right foot touches behind, on the ball of the foot, heel up; the left arm is already swinging far out to the side at shoulder height.
  • 2: step onto that foot, feet apart, and the arms come back in close to the body.
  • 3-4: same with the left foot, but the arms stay close; the big opening comes back on 5.

Usual mistakes

  • Putting the foot down flat on the touch: only the ball of the foot brushes the floor.
  • Touching in front: the touch goes behind, on the diagonal.
