Lindy Circle

8-count · Beginner

An eight-count move that brings the couple back to closed: the rotation from the middle of a swing out, without the send out.

  1. Starts in closed position.
  2. The couple rotates a full circle in closed, the lead pivoting on the spot.
  3. Stays closed: no send out at the end.

Understanding the move

Count by count

  • 5-8: the couple turns clockwise, seen from above; the lead's right hand stays glued to the follow's back and keeps sending them forward.
  • 6: the follow crosses the right foot in front, not behind, to stay close to the lead.
  • 7-8: triple step, the lead moving backwards, to end up facing the way they started.

Usual mistakes

  • The lead travels instead of turning on the spot: the circle drifts across the floor.
  • The follow puts the right foot behind instead of crossing it in front: their body pulls away and the circle opens up.
