Sliding Doors

8-count · Intermediate

An eight-count move you can loop, each partner sliding in front of the other in turn, like a sliding door.

  1. Release one hand, rock step back, side by side and open to the front.
  2. On the triple step you swap sides: the follow crosses in front, the lead behind.
  3. Rock step again, then swap back with the lead passing in front. Repeat.

Not to be confused with: Side Pass,Behind-the-Back Pass

Understanding the move

Count by count

  • 1-2: from a two-hand hold, the lead lets go with the right.
  • 3-and-4: the first swap.
  • 5-6: rock step on the free leg, the lead's right and the follow's left.
  • 7-and-8: the second swap; one full cycle is eight counts.

Usual mistakes

  • The follow keeps the arm tucked in: the hand has to stay where the lead can grab it.
  • The lead doesn't offer a hand at the swap.
