Understanding the move

Count by count

  • 1-2: the lead's left hand in the follow's right; from the rock step on, the lead shows which side the follow will pass.
  • 3-4: the lead turns their shoulders to the left; the follow walks on with no pause and passes them side-on, close.
  • 5-6: the follow keeps turning steadily, no sudden spin, to end up facing the lead.

Usual mistakes

  • The follow goes around the lead instead of staying on the line.
  • The lead picks the side too late: the follow hesitates.
