Minnie's Dip

8-count · Intermediate

A showy side pass: as the follow goes by, the lead dives forward, and the couple finishes on a pose.

  1. Starts in open position, one hand held, with a rock step.
  2. Side pass: as the follow goes by, the lead bends forward low, the dip.
  3. Both end on the other side in open, knee lifted, the follow's free arm up.

Understanding the move

Count by count

  • 3-4: the lead guides the hand down, then lets go; they go down on 3 and clap on 4.
  • 5-6: the follow passes on the lead's right, both turning to their left; hands join again, knee up on 6, the lead's left, the follow's right.
  • 7-8: hold the pose on 7, stomp off on and-8. Some teachers count it in 6.

Usual mistakes

  • The lead doesn't guide the hand down: the follow reads a plain side pass.
  • Passing without looking at each other: the hands don't find each other again.
