Sugar Push

6-count · Beginner

A basic six-count move: the follow goes in and back out facing the lead, with no turn and no change of places.

  1. Starts in open position, follow's weight back.
  2. The follow comes in to the lead, both hands, into a short compression on 4.
  3. Sent back out from 4, back to open.

Not to be confused with: Send Out

Understanding the move

Count by count

  • 1-2: the lead barely moves, hands low near the middle.
  • 3-4: soft elbows on arrival. On 4 the lead sends the follow back with the body, not by pushing with the arms.
  • 5-6: the follow backs away on the triple step.

Usual mistakes

  • Stiff arms: the follow runs into a wall instead of a cushion.
  • The lead pushes with the arms only, not the body.
