Crazy Legs

Jazz steps (solo) · Intermediate

A bouncy jazz step where the knees flap open and shut in quick succession, one side then the other, the arms echoing them.

  1. On the balls of the feet, knees bent and pressed together, arms loose and slightly out.
  2. Small hop on one foot: the other knee swings wide open and that foot flicks up to the side, then the knees snap back together.
  3. Repeat in rhythm, the arms flap along.

Not to be confused with: Shorty George

Understanding the move

How it goes

  • As one knee opens, the arms spread with it, elbows bent, hands around hip height.
  • Between openings, the knees come back together, feet apart.
  • The sides alternate on every little hop, with no pause in between.

Usual mistakes

  • Landing on the heels: the little hop stays on the balls of the feet.
  • Straightening the legs between openings: the knees stay bent throughout.
