Lock Turn

A partnered move where the lead and the follow let go to do the same step at the same moment, then pick the dance back up together.

  1. In open, one hand held: the lead lets go.
  2. Both cross one foot over the other into a lock, then unwind into a full turn on the spot.
  3. Facing each other again, catch the hand back and carry on in open.

Usual mistakes

  • Turning without the cross first: without the lock, the turn has no wind-up.
  • Drifting apart during the turn: stay on the spot so the hand is right there when you finish.
