Frankie's Sixes

6-count · Intermediate

A run of six-count phrases built around a tandem: one dancer behind the other instead of face to face.

  1. Closed, then the lead turns the follow out under the left arm, to open.
  2. Back in: the lead puts both hands behind their back, the follow takes them. Tandem.
  3. The follow comes out on the lead's left, then the lead pivots in behind the follow. They let go, end open.

Understanding the move

How it goes

  • Before the turn out, the lead brings the follow across in front, right hand on their back.
  • In open, a stretch hand to hand, then the follow spins back in and passes in front of the lead to their right.
  • In tandem, the lead travels bent forward with the follow close behind, and the pair turns as one.
  • Once behind, the lead bends over the follow's back, left arm reaching forward past them.

Usual mistakes

  • The lead's hands go behind their back too late: the follow has nothing to take.
  • In tandem the follow stays too far back, arms straight, and the travel stalls.
