Shorty George

Jazz steps (solo) · Beginner

A low jazz step done almost on the spot, the knees stuck together and swinging side to side as one.

  1. Knees together and bent, body low.
  2. Step left and both knees swing left, step right and both knees swing right.
  3. Arms hang low and swing along, keep stepping to repeat.

Understanding the move

How it goes

  • The feet stay close together; the upper body leans a little the opposite way from the knees.
  • The hands stay near the thighs, elbows bent out, fingers pointing down.

Usual mistakes

  • Standing all the way up between steps: the step loses its low, tucked look.
  • Letting the knees drift apart: they move together, as if glued.
